Research terms.
Clearly defined.
Amino Acid
An organic compound containing amino and carboxyl functional groups. Amino acids are the fundamental building blocks from which peptides and proteins are formed.
Analytical Testing
Laboratory analysis used to evaluate characteristics such as identity, purity, concentration or composition of a research material.
Batch
A defined quantity of material produced or processed under a specific set of conditions and generally associated with a unique batch or lot identifier.
Biochemical
A substance, reaction or process associated with the chemistry and molecular interactions of biological systems.
Certificate of Analysis (COA)
A document summarizing analytical results associated with a particular material or batch. It may include identity, purity or other tested characteristics.
Chromatography
A laboratory technique used to separate individual components within a mixture for analytical evaluation or purification.
HPLC
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography is an analytical technique used to separate and evaluate components within a sample.
Lot Number
A unique identifier assigned to a particular production or testing group for traceability and documentation.
Lyophilization
A freeze-drying process in which water is removed from frozen material under reduced pressure to produce a dry research material.
Mass Spectrometry
An analytical method used to measure the mass-to-charge ratio of ions and assist in characterizing molecular identity and composition.
Molecular Weight
The calculated mass of a molecule based on the atomic masses of the elements that make up its molecular structure.
Peptide
A molecule composed of two or more amino acids connected through peptide bonds.
Peptide Bond
A covalent bond formed between the amino group of one amino acid and the carboxyl group of another.
Purity
A measurement describing the relative proportion of the intended compound detected within a sample under the analytical method used.
Research Use Only (RUO)
A designation indicating that a material is supplied for laboratory, analytical or research applications rather than therapeutic, diagnostic, human or veterinary use.
Sequence
The specific order in which amino acids are arranged within a peptide or protein.
Stability
The ability of a research material to retain defined chemical or physical characteristics under specified conditions.
Third-Party Testing
Analytical testing conducted by a laboratory that is separate from the organization supplying or manufacturing the research material.
Traceability
The ability to associate a material with relevant batch, production, testing or documentation records.
